What is breathwork and how does it help with stress?

Breathwork is a practice of using intentional breathing patterns to calm your nervous system, release stored tension, and shift how you feel in your body. Unlike talk therapy, breathwork works directly with your body's stress response, helping you move from a state of constant alertness to one of genuine calm. Many women notice they feel lighter, clearer, and more patient after just one session.

Do I need any experience to attend a class?

Not at all! Our Breath & Body classes are designed for complete beginners. You'll be guided through every step, and there's no wrong way to do it. Just show up as you are, wearing comfortable clothes you can breathe easily in.

What's the difference between in-person and virtual classes?

Both formats include the same guided breathwork, movement, and meditation. In-person classes are held in Ellicott City and include optional hands-on Reiki. Virtual classes let you practice from home, which many busy moms prefer since there's no childcare or commute needed. Both are equally effective.

What areas do you serve?

The Rooted Human is based in Ellicott City, Maryland, serving women throughout Howard County including Columbia, Elkridge, Catonsville, and the greater Baltimore area. Virtual sessions are available nationwide.

How is this different from yoga or meditation?

While there's some overlap, breathwork specifically targets your nervous system's stress response through active breathing techniques. Many women who haven't been able to quiet their minds through traditional meditation find breathwork more accessible because it gives the mind something to focus on while the body releases tension.
